One day I tied to capture Michelle and Becky playing folk music together. It is hanging in a show at this time in a town on the west side of Ohio, near Wapakoneta. They were fairly good models, being painters themselves.
Orchids have bloomed nicely for us this winter. Our neighbor gifted us with this one. So it had to go in a few paintings!

One day in January it was warm enough to paint plein air. This is our backyard wooded area. When we were young it was a pasture for our cow and a sled riding hill. Some of the trees are dying off and need to be felled. But it is a restful place in every season.
Shari invited us to paint in her studio area. I grabbed a shell as I left home, thinking it might be added. It was exactly the thing. We hadn't even talked about it, but she had other shells and driftwood set up for us to paint. Artists have a lot in common!
Last month the East Ohio Plein Air group met at the artist Charles Burchfield's Homestead in Salem. We painted looking out the windows as he did when living there.
The East Ohio Plein Air group has been meeting in the homes and studios of our members during the cold months. Shari invited us to her studio one Monday. She had the red fiesta pitcher, lovely red patterned scarf, brass bowl
Last month I managed to paint each day for a challenge. Some like this I took two days to complete. The stripes really were a challenge. Broccoli and Cauliflower, vinegar cruet, salt and pepper shakers not so much trouble.
When painting en plein air I’m drawn into a deeper sense of the beauty of the landscape. Capturing in paint some essence of God’s handiwork is an intriguing thrill. Shapes and colors change constantly via the elements, like a kaleidoscope turning as it is held up to the light. Sunlight and shadow, the movement of a breeze, makes painting en plein air so much more stimulating than painting from a photo.
I work to capture that flash of wonder the light reveals to me. Spontaneity contributes to the energy that comes through in my painting. My painting is a celebration of light and color. Light is a metaphor of Christ the creator. Light reveals color, exposing immediate substance. It reveals depth and detail. Light communicates relationships, revealing nuances that continuously change, yet have a timeless source. My Paintings are for sale in the sales gallery of Butler Institute of American Art & The Hoyt Art Center Gift Shop & on Etsy as "Pleinairimpressions". It is my privilege to be a participant in various juried artist shows, Denver Plein Air in Colorado, Ohio Plein Air Society, Butler Museum of American Art, & The Hoyt in New Castle, PA.
