Lakeside Pavilion

This week I painted a somewhat larger version of a painting I did a few years ago at Lakeside Chautauqua on Lake Erie.
Although I seldom paint from photos or even my plein air work, I enjoyed this exercise. Perhaps it is time to develop this skill!

Hollyhocks

Spent the weekend painting with 35 or more artists at Lakeside Chautauqua on Lake Erie. The first evening the lake was a wonderful aqua color.

Kenton Row, Lakeside

This past weekend I painted four paintings at the Lakeside Chautauqua on the Marblehead Peninsula along the Lake Erie shoreline.. A warm & friendly community gather there throughout the summer. It feels like going back in time to another era. My friends & I stayed in Lakeside Hotel, a historic victorian hotel, built about 135 years ago. These houses are in Kenton Row facing the recreational area of the village.

OPAS converged on the LakeSide Chautauqua on Lake Erie once again. Once again the flower gardens made a lovely foreground for our paintings. In the background is the pavilion. An enthusiastic & gracious area resident bought the painting during the outdoor art show.

Bay Point Dunes

The dunes were painted on a somewhat cloudy day. It was worth the sand in our paint and shoes, I believe. I worked a little more on it back at the cottage. It always helps to have other artists around for advice.

Rocky Shoreline

This is my favorite of those I painted at Lakeside Chautaqua on Lake Erie last summer. The painting was on exibit at the Butler Institute of American Art this year along with the Mennonite Farm Garden painting. My plan is to return to Lakeside this summer to paint again.
