Shi Su Roses

One afternoon in the Fellows Riverside Rose garden. Noises in city of Youngstown fade when walking or painting in the gardens.

Stoney Creek in Autumn

The leaf colors are nearly gone. Orange & yellow leaves cover the ground. I was interested in the deep red & earth green shadows of the water. When the Plein Air Group met at the Lilly pond in Mill Creek Metro park, I wanted to paint the blue heron that stood like a statue in the pond, but there was no background color. Just down the hill was this lovely stoney creek bed. It was complicated to paint, & I would like to return to do another, but it would all be different. I sat below the curved stone bridge behind me. The damp cold from it reminded me of a stone castle.

The Ponds, A Bird Sanctuary

Today the Plein Air group met  at a little known area of the Youngstown Mill Creek metro park. In fact  I had to call the park office for permission to paint here. The official was very gracious  & sent us a signed permit to be displayed when we are there. I painted on a larger canvas today & Monday. This is a 5 or 6 hour painting.  Serenading redwing blackbirds, woodpeckers, martins, bluebirds, wrens, & others I was too intent to notice, kept us company.

Mill Creek Wetlands Preserve

This it a section of the Mill Creek Metroparks Wetlands reserve, off of Western Reserve Road. The day was perfect for cloud studies. Must practice them.

Magnolia Blossoms

The Magnolia tree was dropping it's petals in today's slight wind. The pink petals fell onto the stone walls & the surrounding ground.  We painted in Fellows Garden at the Youngstown Mill Creek Metro-park. It was a perfect spring day. People flocked through the park, many of them photographing their families against the colorful background of spring flowers. I usually avoid formal gardens, preferring the more natural habitat of plants.

Anderson Run

Plein Air paint-out in March. Rather sketchy. It was surprisingly warm that day. The warmest day of all this month. But, then we returned the next week & it had turned cold again. This is near the Lake Newport Wetlands in Mill Creek MetroPark, Youngstown & vicinity

Mill Creek Park, Fellows Gardens

Painted one Saturday with Chris Leeper and others. This was a rather complex scene, but I like the textures and colors it inspired. 12" X 16" Oil painting SOLD
