Simon's Fields

I scheduled Simon's hay field for our Monday Plein Air meet-up. My hope was that the round bales would still be sitting, throwing some shadows onto the fields. The clouds too were making a wonderful display of rolling light & shadow. Thankfully the dramatic landscape held. The wind was somewhat gusty, forcing me to hold the easel still with one hand while painting.

Still Life, Inside/Outside

Painted this in my studio with a painter friend Michelle. Two areas of this painting lend exciting dimension. The framed landscape I painted a few years ago and the actual March landscape view through the window.

Clouds Over Baled Hay

This field is about a mile north of where I live. An artist friend stopped by to paint with us. A farmer stopped his truck while passing and asked us to paint at his farm. Hope to do that soon.

Mary Good's Garden

Mary Good has many artistic talents. One of which is the gardens she nurtures around her home. The Clematis was in full bloom on the day we painted in her yard. The rain threatened, distant thunder rolled as we worked. I would have liked to play in the paint on location longer, but sometimes the weather determines how long we work. I held out until my pochade box filled with water and I was rather damp. Then I folded up shop.

Guilford Lake, Before the Rain

I painted a demo for an artist friend who lives on Guilford Lake. This is her backyard! Just as I was finishing up the rain began. God has good timing!

Firestone Home, Built 1880

This is an oil painting of a house built in 1880 by Harvey Firestone for his sister. It is on the south edge of Pine Lake along Lipply Road. It was moved to this spot a year ago & is now for sale. Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day to paint plein air after the past week of colder windy days.
Update: We were so sorry to hear an arson set a fire that burnt this house to the ground the summer of 2014.

Field And Clouds

PAC group painted again from the Mennonite Meeting House on Renkenberger Road. The place is so peaceful. The weather was hot & muggy, but sitting in the shade mixing paint while breezes gently shifted the grasses was the best place to be.

Afternoon Across The Road

Just had to paint one more before the bad weather sets in. Also, the farmers have harvested the soy bean fields around us. So glad they left this one more day!

Fair Entry

This is the attractive entry to the Van Wert Fair Grounds. I was drawn to this view when we first arrived Friday evening. Sadly, the crowd never saw the balloons fly as the stormy weather kept them grounded. Still, it was beautiful weather for Plein Air painting. This painting received first place.

Rupert Farm

This afternoon I took our Siberian Husky to my paint-out. I parked along the roadside at highway 7. I prepared the pallet (all but the mixing) before leaving the studio. The scene caught my eye a few days ago, but then there were cows in the shade of the trees. The dog entertained himself by digging holes.

Jeannes's View

The artist Jean Widman invited us to paint in her studio on Lookout Mountain this past week. My sister was visiting from Ohio  and we thoroughly enjoyed the view and atmosphere. This is a view from the studio window.

Cope Conifer

Yesterday, even though it was pouring down rain, it was warm (50 0r s0). I wanted to paint outside. I put up my extra large umbrella to cover my paint box and self. Only a little rain dripped in. This pine, that grows outside my aunt's picture window is a refuge for the many varieties of birds that feed in her feeder. Funny thing, not many came around while I stood there painting!

558 East

Even though the winter colors appear drab at first glance, once an artist begins to look the color seems to appear. In this case the sun began to set in the west touching the trees and dry weeds with color.

Furrowed Valley

A little over a week ago an artist friend called with an offer to paint with her. We met in this Pennsylvania valley. The day was warmer than any day we've had this winter, heavenly. I had some 8" x 10" canvas boards I had made. Not being used to painting that small I took two, thinking I might do side by side panoramic panels. What I did were two of the same view. Panel 1 & Panel 2. The snow was nearly gone in the second.

Barn At Pine Lake

This is a barn at the south end of Pine Lake. The Y Plein Air class painted here the second week. So I have another demo painting.

Amish Farm & Cornfield

This is the farm I published last month, but it did not quite please me. I have worked more on it and like it much better. It is a demo painted with my plein air class near New Wilmington. PA. Oil Painting 12" x 16" $550

One Rainy Day

This particular evening our Plein Air class planned to meet at a local park reserve. It was pouring down rain, no problem there was an open picnic pavillion where we could set up to paint this scene in the rain.

Wild Asters & Golden Rod

This is the demo for the first Hoyt plein air class this fall. I saw this colorful field on my drive into New Castle. It appears to be out in the country, but there is a Burger King just beyond the tree line and a shopping plaza beyond that. Rt. 224 is to the right of the scene.
