Blue Enamelware

I may be overambitious with the patterns, but, hey, how can one grow without pushing the learning curves? I love to paint this red stripped tea towel. The quilts are a challenge when posed in the background. The blue enamelware pieces were my mothers treasures. One was a wedding gift to our parents,  hmm, 70 years ago.

Tea Time

Met some artist friends at the Cuyahoga Falls art center. We had planned to paint en plein air, but the weather turned cold & rainy. Now we could have dressed for the day, but they have a neat old building to meet in. This nook overlooking the Cuyahoga River, intrigued me. It seemed to be waiting to be painted. Sold an 11" x 14" giclee print of this painting.

Pond In Autumn

A lovely natural untrimmed pond in Mark's Woods, about a mile from us. The owner is very gracious, inviting me to paint here whenever I like. It should be nice on a snowy day. Lupine only knocked my easel over once, he is usually very careful, but this time got carried away with the excitement of a chase.

Barn With A View

Today I had to paint. I put my Siberian, Lupine, in the car. Gathered up water for him & a long wire cord. He played in the harvested field behind me very contentedly (except for one deep hole he crafted). The view is looking toward Leetonia, I think. I see a few things I want to touch up, & maybe try another photo, not sure if the colors exactly true, but not bad.

Afternoon Across The Road

Just had to paint one more before the bad weather sets in. Also, the farmers have harvested the soy bean fields around us. So glad they left this one more day!

Across The Road

This is the view across from our home. Soy Bean fields this year. Something else next year. On the left is a mowed grass road.

Fair Entry

This is the attractive entry to the Van Wert Fair Grounds. I was drawn to this view when we first arrived Friday evening. Sadly, the crowd never saw the balloons fly as the stormy weather kept them grounded. Still, it was beautiful weather for Plein Air painting. This painting received first place.

Bandstand Box Office

Van Wert, Ohio had a balloon festival this past weekend. They also sponsored a Plein Air Competition, which my artist friend Michelle & I entered. This old building had been the bandstand ticket office. It placed 3rd in the competition.

Pond Lily's II

Painted the Franklin Square lily pond again yesterday, in between rain drops. More abstract than ever. I would like to paint there every day until the winter kills them.

Beaver Creek, Sunspots

Today Lupine & I went to Beaver Creek State Park. He played, jumping down a bank into the creek, while I painted en Plein Air. It was so cool & relaxing in the shade.

Rupert Farm

This afternoon I took our Siberian Husky to my paint-out. I parked along the roadside at highway 7. I prepared the pallet (all but the mixing) before leaving the studio. The scene caught my eye a few days ago, but then there were cows in the shade of the trees. The dog entertained himself by digging holes.

Pond Lilies

I have returned to this small pond in full of lilies several times this month. It doesn't seem to say what I want it to yet. Very abstract. Some push & pull. But....

Oat Stacks

An artist friend who lives in New Castle, PA. asked me to join her to paint in the Amish farm country near her. We had a peaceful two days painting the Oat Stacks. They're irregular shape was a challenge for me to paint, but I seem to thrive on such struggles in painting.

Coming Storm

Last evening, while driving to town, I passed this sunlit field of round bales. I thought I could not get home for my art gear fast enough. But, it was still sunlit when I returned. The clouds built up while I painted, though, & thunder rumbled in the distance.

Holmes County

The next morning Jim, Michelle, & I searched the countryside for the perfect scene. The dirt roads along the ridges were our favorite sites, but too often there was no place to set up our easels. We finally settled here. One always thinks that just over the hill or just around the bend there will be a little better view.

Yoder Farm

Ohio Plein Air scheduled a paint out at Charm in Holmes County this past weekend. Thanks to Jack Lieberman for arranging the event. Some of us met on Friday to paint. This was my first painting. Mary Ann Miller had met the Yoder family. They graciously consented to our painting on their farm.

The Mighty Mississippi

Michelle, an artist friend , flew to Denver to accompany me home to Ohio. Our plan was to paint each day. The second day we drove all day across Iowa, to reach my cousins in Maquoketa after dark. It was worth the drive to be with them, & to paint the Mississippi river from a bluff near Bellevue.

Platte River, Nebraska

Driving east on Route 80 we finally chose a spot near sunset along the Platte River. We lost a little time watching a group of muskrats turn their heads to watch us as they floated on the current under the bridge. The colors disappeared quickly. So here's my quick sketch. I have been a few weeks trying to find a way to post in the new redesigned blogspot.

Waiting For Bluebirds

Last week I planned to paint with the Castle Rock Plein Air group. As simple as it looked on the map I never did find them. So I drove northeast to find someplace to paint. Jon had pointed out a few places at different times, so just before reaching Parker I headed up a gravel road onto a platte & found this view. These are the last of my 8" x 10" panels.

Sonoma Desert

My sister & I spent a few days in Sonoma Arizona last month.  We stayed in a lovely bed & breakfast  at the entry to Saguaro National Park. The desert plants were just amazing. I expected to finish more paintings, but this is it. We wished we could have stayed longer.

Cache La Poudre River

I painted with Ft Collins PAAC group last week. It is a bit of a drive from Denver, but made a perfect opportunity to visit Judson's Guerrilla art store and paint with a group. They are a friendly, welcoming group of artists. Still working on these small supports I did the diptych again. I like this challenge.

Castlewood Canyon, Winter

Last  week many plein air  Colorado artists  met  at  Castlewood Canyon state park. The wind was frigid
so we could not linger. The only canvas' I have left are samller, so I put two 8" x 10" together. I wished I could have worked a little more on this to clarify some things, but, I like the looseness.

Buffalo Park

Plein Air Artists Colorado met at Buffalo Park in Evergreen, Colorado yesterday. I climbed a small hill for a see-through view of the mountains. The rocks are a lovely shade of green from the lichen. The sun seldom reaches some of those shaded areas where bits of snow linger.

DeKoevend

Six PAAC painters met in DeKoevend Park at Centenial, Colorado, for this week's Denver "paint out".  The mountains were even more dramatic that usual, with recent snowfall. I sat on top of a picnic table to get my feet off the snow pack. I dressed warm, but the sun was so bright it felt hot as an oven. It had been my plan to paint over another painting. However, I neglected to take my palette knives, so note the brushwork!

Deer Creek Canyon, South Valley

PAAC painted in Deer Creek Canyon last week. Nature's stacking & outcroppings of brilliant red rock is a wonder. I could paint here every day the rest of the year.
