Kirk Valley

West of our home, just past the orchard is a small copse. Very likely it was left to grow because the small valley and stream was difficult to cultivate. The copse was to the left of me while I painted one warmer day last winter.

Salem Reservoir

I set up my easel on a small side road this beautiful summer day. A roan horse grazed in the pasture to the right of me. How could life be any better than this?

Still Winter

This was painted en plein air March 15th during an OPAS paintout. The scene was wonderful, but my feet were as icy cold as that snow. It was all worth persevering

Garden on the Farm

This is the painting I was working on one hot day in July. My sister took the photo of me painting the scene. It is not far from my home. Painted on a Mennonite farm, there is a barn off to my left and a small store in the basement of their home behind me. This painting has been accepted into the juried Butler show coming up in January.

Bell Valley

I painted this from the other side of the railroad tracks, with the main road behind me. A train passed between once. Many cars drove by. Once long ago an old Friends Meeting house stood on the hill behind me. There is still one gravestone with Bell engraved on it.

Ice Melt Over Mosquito Lake

Painted this on a cold day early this spring. Sometimes the cold blues and earth hues are more eye pleasing and calming than the many vivid colors of summer and fall.

Two Trees

This drawing was done north of Ravenna. I always enjoy tree studies, especially when the branches are bare. I used conte' crayon, and graphite stick.

Sap Bucket

Obviously it was still quite cold, but an artist friend and I met near Middlefield in early spring this year. I thought this painting was worth braving the elements.

Middlefork Creek

I painted this while sitting in my car near a railroad track, about a half mile from Franklin Square. I'm pleased with the oil color combination of Manganese Blue, Mars Yellow and Burnt Sienna. SOLD

Cuyahoga Valley Stream

Painted this looking upstream this summer during the Valley plein air competion. I still like the shapes, shadows and colors. There were families walking in the stream, the children in bathing suits playing in the water. I wanted to put some in the painting, but by the time I was ready they were gone. I should go back another summer.

Mennonite Farm on Green Beaver Road

Painted this set up in the middle of their driveway. My thought was I could move if anyone wanted to drive in. In an hour or so the owner came home. He said he thought I was a vendor, because my sun umbrella was up. But, he was Ok with my painting there and his daughter came home later and was quite friendly. Sold sold

Pond Reflecting Autumn

Painted this in late afternoon, on the last of our nice fall days. I parked on the side of the road and looked through trees already bare of leaves. A cat investigated, but wouldn't let me pet it. A woman who lived across the road came out to watch, then went away and came back with some empty canvases for me. The owner came for a look and said I was welcome to paint anytime.
