Cook Farm

The Cook farm, just a couple miles west of our home. It is the 30th painting in the September challenge. Sitting in Bethel Cemetery, I painted until the cows went home. (Hence not cows in the painting.) The black and white cattle can make a striking painting, but the sunlit barn on a hill was enough this time.

Peck Of Peppers

It was so much fun to paint the colorful peppers at the fair! So, on a rainy day I went back to Rhodes' Market to buy more for another still life. The old basket and my favorite linen towels joined the peppers in jewel like glory.

Sunflower Arrangement

I was asked to Demo for the YMCA art program at the Canfield Fair. I planted sunflowers, hoping for a paintable display. The day was hot and the poor flowers soon wilted. But then they have a certain gestural beauty to them. The old crock and colorful peppers complete the rhythm.

Sunflowers On A Cloudy Day

Whitehouse Farms planted a field of sunflowers this year. The days I painted There were cloudy and threatened rain. But the overcast conditions worked like a shade tree for comfort in the heat.

Cafe Chair With Plant

Our succulent has been soaking up the summer sun. The rusty cafe chair my sister bought at in a yard sale made a wonderful setting for my still life and later a demo at the Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society. These were days 23 and 25 of my last month challenge.

Apple Orchard

Fruit farms are lovely landscapes. I have painted in Arrowhead Orchards with my artist friend Kathleen Farthing twice this year plus one cold winter day a couple years ago. Love the hills!
The second painting is Peace Valley Orchards. It is the area where my father was born, nearly a hundred years ago.

One Zinia

One day a lone zinnia in our garden caught my eye. The day was not terribly warm, but to get the view I wanted I had to sit in the sun. The umbrella I used for shade helped a little. I experimented with the greens a little using a prussian blue in the background mix.

Rudbeckia

This month I agreed to a challenge to paint a painting each day. This was my September 1st painting. The Rudbeckia, along the walkway to our studio, makes a lovely show that time of year.
