Hidden Mesa

Painted larger this week. Took apart an older painting & stretched new canvas on the old stretchers. I took my inspiration from an 8" x 10" Plein Air piece done on the Hidden Mesa Open Space trail. (See "Waiting For Bluebirds") The result is this 34" x 38" studio painting. Nice to imagine myself back in Colorado with a view of the mountains!

Very nice, Nancy! I'm glad to see that a bit of Colorado has made it to Ohio...

Thanks Laura, I am about to repost, as I have worked a little more on the painting. I do miss the mountains.

I would love to think that a little Colorado made it to Ohio. We got the snow at least.

I love this painting as is, but now wondering what you did to it. I love the movement of the brushstrokes. Whether it's intended to show wind, not sure, but it feels windy to me, at this stage at least, and backlit. Love it Nancy.

Hi Debi,
It is very subtle, but defined/darkened the value over the hill, & lightened the value beyond the Mesa. There was a strange wind that came through while I painted on a sunny afternoon. It sounded like a car coming up the gravel road. I was surprised it was a gust of wind in an otherwise calm day. It blew some gravel onto my palate & painting, then disappeared.
